About this course
Our Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care will provide a thorough introduction to the principles, values and knowledge needed to work in the healthcare sector with adults.
The aim of this course is to provide learners with a thorough introduction to the principles, values and knowledge needed to progress into roles within the Health and Social Care sector. The programme is aimed at those in roles supporting adults in that exercise autonomy and judgement within limited parameters, such as Senior/Social Care Workers or Senior Support Workers.
Learners who have successfully completed the Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core and Practice qualification.
Learners who promote and support effective practice within Health and Social Care and are aware of key policies within the sector to understand how these affect service development and delivery.
Learners who apply a range of problem solving techniques reflect on practice to continuously improve use of literacy, numeracy and digital competency skills whilst working in partnership with individuals, their families, careers and a range of professionals.
Learners will be required to undertake a mixture of mandatory units and optional units (we will work with you to decide what optional units are relevant to your role, and your business).
Learners must achieve the mandatory unit (18 credits) and as a minimum of 14 credits from Group A and 18 credits from either Group A or Group B.

- Supporting core practice in Health and Social Care (Adults).
Optional Units
Group A
- Using assessments for the development of personal plans.
- Co-ordinating care and support for individuals living in their own homes.
- Promoting care and support for individuals living in their own homes.
- Promoting care and support for individuals living in care home settings.
- Promoting support for individuals living with dementia.
- Supporting individuals who misuse substances.
- Promoting positive approaches for behaviour support.
- Supporting individuals with a physical impairment.
Group B
- Supporting the use of medication in social care settings.
- Providing support to individuals following a stroke.
- Supporting individuals with management of continence.
- Supporting individuals with moving and positioning.
- Supporting individuals to maintain mobility and minimise the risk of falls.
- Supporting individuals with sensory loss.
- Supporting food safety practice in health and social care settings.
- Supporting individuals to manage pain and discomfort.
When you agree to undertake an Apprenticeship, you may be required to complete Essential Skills qualifications, depending on your previous qualifications, the Apprenticeship level you are completing and your own particular needs.
This qualification will primarily be delivered through 1-to-1 sessions with a member of our delivery team, using a mixture of face-to-face and remote learning sessions.
Upon enrolment, learners are also allocated an assessor. Throughout the qualification, the assessor will visit the learner either at their workplace or remotely (for example, via Microsoft Teams) on a monthly basis, to support progress, observe and set tasks.
After completing this qualification, successful learners can progress onto our Level 4 qualification in Professional Practice for Health and Social Care. Learners are supported and encouraged throughout their qualification to reach their full potential in their chosen industry.

To start an Apprenticeship in Wales, you need to be:
- aged 16 or over (there is no upper age limit)
- living in Wales
- not in full-time education
- not accessing any other funding from the Welsh Government

- employed for a minimum of 16 hours
- supported by your employer to undertake the qualification
- committed to undertaking an average of 4-6 hours of study a month
- working in a role that is relevant to the qualification
- employed for at least 51% of your contracted hours in Wales
